June 28 2013 - Bring Tarkie Home

Another day on the water... Today, we are sailed to our yacht club (West Vancouver Yacht Club) to bring our little Tarkie home. She stayed at the club because of the better dinghy storage facilities. At our marina, all dinghy's are stored on the open break water... exposed to the winter winds, otters, BC ferry exhaust, etc.

View of my temporary moorage slip at the club
It was a bit stressful for Hank, as he would have to get her from the top of storage rack (8 ft up), then row her over to where I will be temporarily moored. Normally Hank would have no problem, but he is still recovering from his open heart surgery and can only lift 5 pounds. Luckily the facilities manager was there to help out.

Tarkie now fastened to my stern
While moored at the Club, Hank took advantage of  the club facilities and cleaned my stern and port-side.

With little Tarkie now fastened to my stern, we set off for home.

Hank decided to only fly the jib sail, as there was nice warm and light breeze. This was OK, but I did notice that Hank was not his normal self. Tacking with only the jib was stressful, as he could not tack very well... over steered and stalled every-time!

Oh well, as least I am half a sailboat, beats being a power boat eh!

Docking was great, all went well.

Now resting up for the vacation... Desolation Sound with Jason?, or Gulf Islands with Aaron? With Hank's recent heart operation, I would think going with Aaron would be a safer sail... in case Hank has heart complications.

Till then... Tarka out!

All new flags flying high... port side... Canada over my Dutch Flay and Starboard side ... West Vancouver Yacht club burgee.
